How Surin differs from Bang Tao

27 August 2025

Surin and Bang Tao beaches are neighbours on the north-western coast of Phuket, but the experience of holidaying on them is completely different. One is cosy, intimate and scenic. The other is large-scale, with rich infrastructure and an active resort life. We explain how these two popular destinations differ and which beach is best suited to whom.

Infrastructure comparison

Bang Tao is one of the longest beaches on the island, with a coastline stretching for almost 7 kilometres. It is a convenient and comfortable place to relax: expensive hotels, clubs, cafes, massage parlours, shops, pharmacies and even shopping centres are located right along the beach. The central part of the resort includes the famous Laguna Phuket complex with a golf course, boat station, park and cycle paths. It is a real resort village with complete autonomy.

Surin, on the other hand, is more intimate. It is about 800 metres long. There are almost no hotels on the beachfront, nor are there any shopping centres. However, at the very entrance to the beach, there are food stalls, Thai cafes and massage tents. All life is concentrated closer to the road and in the village. It is surrounded by greenery, rocks and tropical landscape. This beach is chosen for its tranquillity and aesthetics.

Where is there more beach entertainment?

If you want activity, the choice is obvious. Bang Tao offers:

  • banana boat and jet ski rides;
  • SUP boards and sea kayaks;
  • parasailing;
  • beach clubs with parties;
  • evening markets and shows;
  • golf, yoga and gyms.

Surin is a different kind of holiday. There are no loud attractions or water activities here. The only sound is the surf. But you can rent a paddleboard, walk along the rocks, meditate or watch the sunset under the palm trees.
